Caring for America
The RWKC Caring for America committee delivered donations to the Pregnancy Resource Center this week. There to accept these donations were Jenn Bledsoe, Parenting Program Counselor (far left) and Lainie Johnson, Executive Director (far right). Also pictured was Peggy Schmidt, Chair for Caring for America. Anyone can donate new items to the Center which is located at 718 Alpine Drive in Kerrville.
It is our goal to encourage all members to reach out to our community to make our country and nation the best that it can be and show that Republican Women “Do Care!”
VA Hospital: Caring for America sponsors Bingo parties for the Veterans at the VA Hospital. We provide refreshments, give out prizes, and supervise the Bingo games. We also decorate the Activity Room to help provide a fun atmosphere.
Hill Country Veterans Center: We are providing food for their food pantry several times a year and donate clothing as well.
Fisher House: We have been giving the Fisher House a hand for the wounded warriors who come there for assistance. These wounded warriors are housed, along with their families, and are provided with everything they need such as paper products, kitchen supplies, cleaning products, food products, hygiene products, and much more.
Donates books to the Barbara Bush Literacy Library Project (BBLLP) and the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project (MELP).
Provides third grade students in Kerr County with their own personal dictionary.
We support the TFRW State Award and the NFRW Dorothy Andrews Kabis Memorial Internship, National Pathfinder Scholarship and Betty Rendel Scholarship.
At the local level we annually present the Theda Schlieter Scholarship to a member of RWKC seeking to further her education by taking continuing education courses in various fields of endeavor or being enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school program.
The Theda Schlieter Scholarship is named after one of the 1st Presidents of the Republican Women of Kerr County. Mrs. Schlieter served as President in 1971 & 1972. The Scholarship winner will be chosen from applicants of active RWKC members, their daughters, granddaughters, or great granddaughters. The applicant must be at least a Senior in high school who will be working on her undergraduate, graduate, or continuing education studies. Learn more below.

THEDA SCHLIETER SCHOLARSHIP
The Republican Women of Kerr County believe that education is a vital key to success and in 2009 established the THEDA SCHLIETER SCHOLARSHIP to be presented annually. The scholarship was designed to provide financial assistance and support to an active member of RWKC who is expanding her education by taking continuing education courses in various fields of endeavor or who is enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school program. Applicants may also include daughters and granddaughters of active members of RWKC. The amount of the scholarship is $1000.
Previous winners of the THEDA SCHLIETER SCHOLARSHIP may not reapply.
